Is Selling A Home Like Selling Bacon??

Not Quite But It’s Close!

baconWhen I interview with home sellers, I sometimes get the impression that they view pricing their home to sell like they view going to the grocery store.

At the grocery store, prices are fixed and unless there is a sale, there isn’t any bartering or dickering on the price you’ll pay for your pound of bacon (or other groceries).  bacon 2

While the price of bacon does fluctuate, see “pork bellies”, it’s more about supply and demand just like all commodities.

Housing should be viewed differently, in my opinion.  While it’s also about supply and demand, selling a home is more like an auction while buying bacon at the grocery store is not like an auction, it’s a vacation! 😉

Selling Bacon vs. Selling a Home

When selling a home, it’s best to price the home slightly below market. This creates an the perception that the house is a great value in comparison to other homes on the market similar to it and this will, generally, attract multiple buyers and multiple offers.

bacon 3When selling bacon, sellers can ask whatever price they want cause Americans love their bacon and will buy it at any price!  Bacon is the only commodity that is plentiful enough in the U.S. to put it in a brownie recipe.

To get the best price on a home, it’s best to do some work to get it ready to show.  Here’s a free report on getting your home ready to show so it looks awesome to buyers.

To get the best price on a pound of bacon, you’ve got to be more lean than fat.  All you need is a little window on the back of the package and bacon scopeyou’re good to go.

More fat = lower price,  less fat = a higher price for bacon.  All bacon seller has to worry about is it’s fat content but even the bacon with higher fat content will sell because American’s love their bacon! Here’s a Maple-Bacon Ice Cream recipe!

When selling a home, you want the highest degree of exposure at the best value price to get people to come look at your home.

When selling bacon, people can smell it no matter where it is and will find it even if it’s behind the hot dogs and cheese!  This is where selling a home and selling bacon are different.

That said, hot dogs wrapped in bacon are considered by some to be a delicacy so hiding bacon behind the hot dogs and cheese is generally brilliant!

All kidding aside, selling a home is not as easy as selling bacon not to mention the economics are completely different.  If you’ve got a home to sell and you’re still confused what came first, the bacon or the home, please give me a call.  I’ll be happy to walk you though the entire process and you’ll come out smelling like, well, freshly cooked bacon!
