Slow Flushing Toilet?
Cresleigh Springs Issue For Many
I’ve lived in Cresleigh Springs in the Sunset West Subdivision since 2003. We bought a home on Cormorant Circle then moved to another on Turnstone. One thing I noticed is that the toilets installed in both homes didn’t really flush well.
Being that they only hold 2.5 gallons of water, I didn’t expect much but just the same, it should be better than it was.
Recently, the master bathroom developed a leak from the base. Generally this means that that wax ring or seal has failed. Yesterday I put on my plumbers hat and decided to tackle the issue.
Plumbing is not a strong suit of mine but with the help, or detriment I haven’t decided which yet, of Youtube I tackled the job. I turned off the water supply, drained the tank and bowl then pulled the throne off the tile floor. Below is a picture of what I found.
(Disclaimer: The thick ring of muck there is the deteriorated wax ring that probably hasn’t been changed since the house was built.)
What you see inside the pipe there and to the right is vegetation growing down the pipe. It wasn’t a thick root but more like a shrub-ish growth. As you can see, it takes up about 1/3 of the pipe space at the opening hence the slow flushing, easily clogged toilet.
I’ve sold a lot of homes over the years and have heard of roots growing through sewer pipes and causing real damage. I was more than a little surprised to see this vegetation growing so far from any existing trees but yet, there it was.
The new seal I installed will prevent this from happening again like this, although, you can’t fight mother nature so I’ll check it again sometime in the future to make sure the integrity of the pipe remains intact the best I can.
Just a little tip from an afternoon of toilet wrestling. Thanks for visiting!
